Bucket Truck Safety for Trainers and Supervisors

Bucket trucks are essential to most types of aerial work. But if you aren’t careful, you could cause injury to yourself and your fellow workers. • Make sure that employees have all of their proper training
• Wear all of the proper fall protection and safety equipment such as helmets, full body harness, lanyard, etc.
• Keep your controls clean and easy to read
• Make sure all of the platform chains or doors are closed
• All employees should stand firmly on the bucket platform, no exceptions
• Have at least 10 feet of distance between you and any conductors
• Have electrical workers insulate power lines with proper safety tools
• Always utilize safety work zones warnings when near traffic
There are also some things that you want employees to avoid, such as:
• Leaning or climbing over the guardrails
• Driving while the bucket platform is elevated
• Working on electrical issues, unless they are certified to do so
• Exceeding predetermined maximum load capacity
• Riding on bumpers
• Touching wires that are not secured
• Modifying lifts without manufacturers written consent
• Having non electrical workers within 10 feet of power lines
